Canon EOS 60D

Canon EOS 60D

The Canon EOS 60D was announced in August of 2010. It is a mid-range camera which sports a 18 MPx APS-C CMOS Sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor. It is the first DSLR camera to introduce a fully articulated screen.

ISO settings range from 100 – 6400 which is expandable up to 12,800.

The camera is capable of 1080p video recording at 30, 25 and 24 FPS. 720p is also possible at 50 and 60 FPS.

The camera allows for the manual control of audio recording levels as well as an external microphone input.

Continuous shooting for the camera is at 5.3 FPS for 58 JPEGs or 16 RAW images.

Images Quality

The 18MPx APS-C CMOS Sensor is paired with the DIGIC 4 Image Processor, which is also employed in the D7 as well as the T3i. Image quality is superb with this sensor and Canon saw no reason to change this formula that’s worked well for the past few years.

ISO settings range from 100 – 6400 which is expandable up to 12,800. It also has a 63-zone Dual-layer Metering Sensor and 9-point AF system.

Video recording is much the same as the D7 and T3i. The camera shoots in 1080p at several frame rates and 720p as well.

SD-quality video has the addition of a Movie Crop function which can crop a video equivalent to 7x magnification.

Construction

At the time of its inception, the 60D was the first camera to employ a fully articulated screen. The 3 inch 1,040K-dot LCD screen can be flipped in any direction for taking difficult shots or self portraits.

The camera supports SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. It also supports wireless flash controls.

Usability

The 60D is capable of 5.3 FPS continuous shooting at 58 JPEGs and 16 RAW. Movie Mode allows the user to manually adjust audio levels and with peak-level meters as well. There is also the option of an external microphone input.

The camera is also able to take RAW images and process them internally into a separate JPEG file. There are 10 process variables in all and additionally there are several creative filters that can be applied for artistic effect.
